Municipal and industrial wastewater treatment projects increasingly require complete, pre-engineered dewatering systems rather than individual pieces of equipment. By integrating the entire process into a containerized package, installation time can be reduced while simplifying transportation, commissioning, and long-term operation.

Approximately two months ago, GN successfully delivered a containerized sludge dewatering system for an overseas sewage treatment project. The system has since been commissioned, and the customer has expressed satisfaction with the equipment's performance and overall quality.

The project consists of:

  • GN GNLW364-VFD Decanter Centrifuge
  • GN 2,000 L Polymer Dosing Unit
  • Two (2) 20-foot containerized modules

The heart of the system is the GN GNLW364-VFD decanter centrifuge, which continuously separates sludge solids from liquid using high centrifugal force. Variable frequency drive (VFD) control allows operators to adjust differential speed and bowl speed to accommodate changing sludge characteristics, helping optimize cake dryness, centrate clarity, and overall operating efficiency.

To improve separation performance, the system incorporates a 2,000-liter automatic polymer dosing unit. Proper polymer preparation and dosing promote floc formation before the sludge enters the centrifuge, improving dewatering efficiency while reducing chemical consumption and stabilizing system performance.

Rather than shipping each component separately for field assembly, the process equipment was integrated into two 20-foot containers. This turnkey approach offers several advantages:

  • Reduced field installation time
  • Factory-installed piping and electrical integration
  • Simplified transportation and logistics
  • Compact equipment layout
  • Easier commissioning and maintenance
  • Convenient relocation if future project requirements change

By completing mechanical assembly, piping, wiring, and factory testing before shipment, the amount of work required at the project site is significantly reduced. Once delivered, the customer primarily needs to complete utility connections and final commissioning before placing the system into service.

Containerized systems have become increasingly popular for municipal wastewater treatment, industrial sludge dewatering, mining operations, drilling waste management, and environmental remediation because they provide a controlled operating environment while minimizing civil construction requirements.

Projects such as this also demonstrate how GN's engineering capabilities have evolved over nearly two decades. Today, GN designs and manufactures not only individual pieces of separation equipment, but also complete turnkey process systems supported by modern manufacturing facilities and worldwide project experience.

Whether supplying a standalone decanter centrifuge, a polymer preparation system, or a fully integrated containerized dewatering package, the objective remains the same: delivering reliable engineering solutions that simplify installation, improve operational efficiency, and provide dependable long-term performance for customers around the world.
